 serial fiction by Fred Wheaton

It's 1984...

...and Tina Friel, the biggest Depeche Mode fan in her rural hometown of Graineville, is about to start her freshman year of college. Tina's infatuation with "New Wave Dave" Brackett, the absent king of the hip scene in Graineville, is the only thing that has gotten her through a dull summer in the middle of nowhere...

Meanwhile, New Wave Dave's ex-girlfriend Janine Tilde, the trendiest girl in town, has begun to wonder if being the queen of cool is worth all of the work. Janine is drawn to a boy from the "wrong crowd", nihilistic art student Colin Reeder, but Colin's desire for her may be more than she bargained for...

My Life Was Saved By New Wave Dave is a story about pop music,  identity, and nostalgia set against the backdrop of Ronald Reagan's America. The characters struggle to fit in to a hipster milieu which ostensibly values not fitting in above all else.
